Vitamin A for Immune and Liver Health
Vitamin A is an integral part of the mucus layer of both the respiratory tract and the intestines. It promotes mucin secretion and supports immune health through its involvement in the formation of epithelial and mucous tissues — the first line of defense. Because vitamin A promotes mucin secretion, it improves the antigen nonspecific immune function of these tissues.
Vitamin A also plays a role in liver health as a regulator of bile acid synthesis and its transport, as well as gene expression via retinoic acid-activated receptors and retinoid X
receptors.
