Ginseng and Longan Formula (Gui Pi Tang) also known as restorative of spleen function is a widely used formula when there is excessive or obsessive mental activity causing insomnia, palpitations, inability to concentrate, loss of memory, anxiety and phobia. The damage caused to the spleen prevents it from generating and controlling blood. When there is blood deficiency, the heart is not nourished. This affects the heart's ability to store the Shen (spirit) and the spleen to guard the Yi (intelligence). This formula can be used instead of Ginseng and Astragalus Formula or General Tonic Formula in patients who have abdominal strains when taking these formulas. Pinyin: Gui Pi Tang.
