Safety considerations: Sida acuta is used in traditional medicine to prevent pregnancy. It should also be used with caution in Hypertension, Hyperthyroid and Hypoglycemia. Avoid with pregnancy or if you are planning on becoming pregnant. Be sure to work with a knowledgeable health practitioner who can guide you.
Note: Most of the Sida acuta we purchase is now grown at two small farms here in the Northeast. Grown with love and without chemicals, the radiant Sida plants we process from these two fertile farms are high in quality and plant constituents. We also import some Sida from Cameroon and Ghana when needed. The taste of the Sida can be a little different depending on the source, growing conditions, soil type and overall environment. But be assured all are excellent sources!
About: Sida acuta (aka common Wireweed) was originally a native plant of Mexico and Central America, but can now be found in many tropical areas around the world. It may be considered an invasive and troublesome weed by some, but this botanical has many qualities and actions. Sida has been shown to increase glutathione levels in the blood, as well as support and protect red blood cells, acting as a blood tonic. This plant contains Cryptolepine, a primary alkaloid. Sida may also support liver function and has been used to address certain bacterial infections. A member of the Malvaceae family, (think hibiscus, okra and mallow) the leaves are decidedly cool and demulcent, as well as tasty!
